Sunray Club Supporters/Members

Sundowners Line dancers

Hi Everyone,

I trust you are all keeping well in these strange times.

The only thing keeping me sane is the Sunray Club, although a little stressful at times having to wait on promised deliveries that take weeks not days to come.

Unfortunately anything relating to COVID - 19 is in high demand.

Having a safety net whereby some of you continued to pay your class and monthly Social Fee gave me the opportunity to crack on and do all those jobs that are hard to do when the Sunray is occupied. I will be eternally grateful.

Other than touching up around the edges I am almost finished but we have to wait until the new floor is complete.

The hall is not perfect considering it was built in 1974 with a life expectancy of 8/10 years but will be 100% better than it was before.

I had hoped to be finished by the end of this week, but The Luxury Vinyl flooring delivered today was short by thirty tiles. Fitters were due to start round about now, so it is not looking good. But we will persevere.

I have been constantly reading up on COVID – 19 and all that it entails. Social distancing, coughing, touching etc. The biggest problem for small clubs/community centres like ours is Social Distancing but if we all work together and obey the rules, we can make it happen.

Line dancing classes will need to be split or staggered (should be good at that) to allow for the 2mtr x 2mtr rule on a dance floor. To help with that I have arranged for a pattern within the new flooring to mark workable spacing, rather than have tape stuck on the floor which can become a hazard in itself.  Lin has a record of which classes each of you attend and we will advise/discuss our ideas on timings when we meet up.

To avoid cash handling we propose class fees are paid monthly in advance by cheque/bank transfer or visa card. Still have to work out how to use the later at the moment. This will avoid signing in and sharing pens & paper and arms on desks.

The future of the Sunray depends on the numbers wanting to come back and I hope we can meet up the week after next to discuss the future of our classes.

I have included below a copy of Community Hall Rules for your guidance which will be displayed at the Sunray Club.

The current ruling for Monthly Socials will allow for approx. 60 people per show. Maybe more depending on the number of social support groups (support bubbles) and the separation of individuals requiring more specific social distancing.

Masks or Visors will need to be worn inside the building and strict hand washing and sanitising of hands will need to be adhered to. There will also be a marked entrance and exit door.

An ample number of sanitizers are being provided throughout the building and the hall will be sprayed during daily cleaning.

We will provide sneeze screens on tables where requested and the Bar has been shielded with large sneeze screens.

All drink glasses have been replaced. It all sounds a bit ominous but

IF WE ALL OBEY BY THE RULES THERE IS NO REASON WHY WE CANNOT BRING BACK THE FUN & FRIENDSHIPS

COVID - 19

JULY 2020 UPDATE
Hi everybody I guess FaceBook has been very quiet from me. I don't look very often and when I do any relevant news has been and gone.
THE GOOD NEWS!
At last some news to make us smile. The Government has cleared the way for Dance Schools to start back from 25th July 2020 subject to various safe guards being put in place. The bad news is i will not be ready until a week later. However the majority of Halls will remain closed until September.
Rather than waste three months in lockdown I took the opportunity to use our accumulated lesson fees to update the facilities at the Sunray Club. The building is held on a full reparation & repair lease from the Council and is self-funding.

Before I continue I must say a
Heartfelt Thank You
to all those Sunray Clubbers & Sundowner Linedancers who continued to pay their weekly class fee and monthly social entrance fee into The Club account. Without it I would not have achieved what I have done during lockdown. It just shows to me just how much the Club means to you all.

THE SUNRAY CLUB - IMPROVEMENTS

The works completed to date include
New Toilets, Wash hand basins & worktop. Updated plumbing to allow faster re-fills to the toilets and to help stop clogging. Hand wash and paper towels in toilets and sanitiser in entrance lobby.
Both toilets, lobby & kitchen floors have been stripped, screeded and re-layed with Polyflor sheet Vinyl (commercial grade).
New secure self-closing entrance doors fitted as well as lobby to hall doors. The lobby has been painted. New larger fire exit doors (with security shutter) fitted on back extension and new fire entrance/exit door to the side.
The Bar has been fitted with two perspex 'sneeze screens' and all glasses have been replaced with new.
Automatic sanitisers on bar front.

Finally but not least the whole of the hall dance floor is to be stripped, made good and screeded, before being layed with
INTERFACE COMMERCIAL
LUXURY VINYL TILES.
I have been advised it is suitable for dancing (slideable - not slipable). But of course only time will tell. It is difficult with only a small sample to play with. So fingers crossed.
Work starts Tuesday 21st inst. As soon as the floor is completed I will arranged perhaps one Tuesday evening and a Thursday morning to meet and discuss class arrangements.
I have ideas on how we can go forward but best we speak with one voice.
Subject to confirmation our first monthly Social will be Saturday 29th August 2020. Numbers will by necessity be limited.
Following Government guidelines there can be no dancing or singing but you can wave your hands, clap and make funny faces.
Safe practices will be in place at all times.
HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL VERY SOON
Some photographs taken of work to date. Still more to do.

TOLWORTH

Surviving The Lockdown

First off I would like to say a massive thank you to all of you who have made a

financial contribution to help The Sunray survive the coronavirus lockdown. Whether your contribution was  £10.00 or £200.00 it has enabled us to hold our lease and pay bills. Even when closed with no foot fall at the club there are

always ongoing costs that have to be paid. Your contributions  have shown just how much you value the Club and the friendships and partnerships made over the years. As for the future I feel I can confidently say that the Club is

financially secure for the foreseeable future. As a small business rate payer I

applied for the Governments Small Business Grant

which was

approved and the sum of £10,000.00 has now been paid directly into our bank account.  SPONSORSHIP. I am also pleased to tell you that

Sarah Melbourn, owner of GREENFIELD

has offered sponsorship to the Club and donated £1000.00 to our account. Sarah is related to Sunray Club Members Christine & Malcolm Brown .

MAINTENANCE OPPORTUNITY

The cash injection we have received gives us the opportunity to continue with some refurbishment previously planned. Work booked and ordered has been able to go ahead, subject to supply of materials. Of the work planned the two new Fire Doors are waiting for the factory to open before we can collect them. Fortunately we do have a new Security Shutter installed on the back. The Ladies Loo has had two new wash hand basins and a new toilets fitted in both Ladies & Gents. Mains water has been diverted directly to the cisterns to allow a quicker refill. Important when they are busy. The entrance lobby has had a lick of paint and new wider entrance doors fitted. Next job is new floor covering. New brighter overhead Solar Lighting, designed for car parks, have been fitted.

WHEN WILL IT ALL END!  Your guess is as good as mine but before it does there is a lot of clearing out to done where items have accumulated over the past twenty years, and before we go back I will order a professional deep clean of ALL AREAS.

BAR AREA. Today I ordered a full stock of new  BAR GLASSES.

EASTBOURNE WEEKEND
The Cumberland Hotel remains closed and will not open at best before mid Juneat best
All monies held are in a separate secure
account, ring fenced until decisions can be made about the future. I personally think we will not be back before 26th September. It may be possible for smaller groups to come together before then, but we will have to wait for Government to advise when. I am hopeful.

TINSEL & TURKEY WEEKEND WILL A BE TIME TO CELEBRATE

CORONAVIRUS - COVID 19

To all Sunray Club Members, Hotshots & Sundowners Linedancers.

Following on from our unfortunate cancellation of our Annual Linedance Weekend to the Trouville Hotel, Isle of Wight I am pleased to tell you that I have now received the refund from The Holiday Shop.
Refunds will be cost less £10 expenses.

With a late cancellation like this it was only right that the acts were paid in full.

I am sure we all wish Darren Jones & Carl Shay success with whatever steps they take next. The entertainment industry has been devastated by COVID-19

I would like to thank Marc of Holiday Shop for his prompt attention refunding to us and all of you for your patience and understanding.

With no forthcoming classes and being in Isolation I will liaise with Janice & Pat on how they wish to handle refunds to their dancers.

As for Sunray Members/Dancers and anybody wishing to deal directly with me I would ask that you TEXT (07 885 543 886) or MESSAGE me with your

Name – Sort Code – Account Number
OR
email:sundownersldc@hotmail.co.uk

and I will transfer directly to you
.

SUNRAY COMMUNITY CENTRE/CLUB CLOSURE
ON GOING COSTS

Even with The Club closed there are of course ongoing costs & expenses. There are those I can’t cancel such as BT (phone line) and ADT (alarm) including CCTV which work together and of course our Insurance premium.

We will weather this storm.

Some of you have become rather insistent on paying towards the above costs and I have to say your support has been quite overwhelming and is truly appreciated.

I do know how much some of you have benefitted from The Club both socially, dance wise and making new friends and want it to continue when the time is right, so do I, so I do understand your desire to help. Some of you have already ask me not to return your holiday cost and put it towards funds. It is times like this when you realise the value of a Club like ours. I am hugely proud and honoured you all feel that way. Thank You.
